Volunteer
Volunteers make valuable contributions to the quality and quantity of services and programs provided by NABIS.
Why does NABIS have a volunteer program?
1. To enhance and extend the services offered by NABIS while simultaneously promoting community involvement through volunteerism.
2. To provide those who have been personally affected by brain injury and/or those who have an interest in this service area the opportunity to enhance all aspects of our Society’s work.
3. To offer a supportive environment for volunteers to grow in their own personal levels of skill development and self-confidence.
4. To offer an opportunity for those in the wider community to gain in understanding, knowledge and appreciation of the effects of Brain Injury in all of its manifestations.
How can I help?
Generally NABIS needs volunteers in four areas:
1. Special Events & Fund Raising (such as the Bi-Annual Casino, the Great Human Race, the Dinner/Silent Auction, Annual Kick-Off Breakfast, Brain Injury Awareness Week, etc.).
2. Office Support (such as front desk reception, mail outs, library, etc.).
3. Client Support (Getting out Group, leisure companions, etc.).
4. Board Governance Structure of NABIS (such as serving on the NABIS Board of Directors, Fund Raising Committee, other committee work, etc.).
How can I volunteer with NABIS?
Prior to being offered an on-going volunteer placement at NABIS, interested persons will be asked to complete an application form, meet for an interview, and consent to appropriate screening requirements. Following these steps, it will be determined if there is a suitable match. NABIS is under no obligation to provide a placement, nor is the applicant obligated to accept one. However, expressions of interest in volunteering are ALWAYS appreciated.
Volunteers are encouraged to become members of NABIS. Membership entitles volunteers to vote at the Annual General Meeting, hold a position on the Board of Directors, receive the quarterly newsletter and add their voice to the many who advocate for support for all those affected by brain injury.
